A few photos from last weekend's "Kick off" in London

Albert & I would like to thank everyone for coming to the Forest City on Saturday (January 8th) afternoon for the Kickoff meeting at the Velodrome building.

To all the volunteers a huge thank you for taking the attendees around the building & showing off the VIP Gondola, to Brad Day for the stage & the members of the LCW and Waterloo Cycling Club for set up & teardown. Also to the Vendors & Corporate Partners for setting up displays & helping out with refreshments.

With over 100 cyclists in attendance it is a great way to Kickoff the Velodrome Project.

Steve Karpik has generously offered to set up our website & on line Donations. Should be up shortly.

For those of you from out of town, London is known to the locals as the Forest City. London Velodrome has been registered as a website by someone else. For this reason I believe the Forest City Velodrome will be our name used. Let me know what you think?

St Thomas Bicycle Shop for the Forest City Velodrome

Paul Fagan, owner of Pauls Bicycle Repair in nearby St. Thomas (10kms from the velodrome) has agreed to be a Sponsoring Partner at the new Forest City Velodrome.

Paul, a long time racer, has committed to helping out our track racing program in the up coming months. " my main focus is recreational riders & to bring a little bit of a Zipp to the proposed Wednesday Night Race Series".

"This project is fantastic for the cycling community in the London area. Kids will learn how to safely ride their bicycles at a very young age". It is my intention to support the Velodrome any way I can", said Fagan. "The next step is to get the cities of London & St. Thomas in step with the track project".

Photo Timing system for Forest City Velodrome

The London Centennial Wheelers in London Ontario have allowed the use of
some high tech Photo Finish Timing Equipment to be used at the proposed new Velodrome in the Forest City.

The equipment will be operated by local riders who have experience at the handling the system. Greg Palmer from London will be spear heading the project. This is just another way for Companies & Individuals to get involved with the Velodrome.

Palmer said "that with the accuracy of the system we will be able to call, even the closest finishes".

Thanks to all members of the London cycling community for support of this project.

Forest City Velodrome at Toronto Bike Show

A special Thank you is in order to Canadian Cyclist for allowing the Forest City Velodrome to Partner with Rob & Tracy at the Toronto Bike Show March 4-6 at the Convention Centre at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto.

We will have access to the CC 10' x 20' display area to help promote our Youth, Handi-Sport, Racing & Fitness Programs. We will introduce the New Logo for the Velodrome as well as help the fund raising efforts.

Our main goal at the show is to illustrate what we have planned for the
coming months.

Memberships & Tax Deductible Donations will also be available in the Booth.

Again thank you to Rob & Tracy for their generous gift to loan us the valuable floor space in their booth.

Volunteers will be needed to man the booth during all of the show hours if you are available please email me with the time you are available.

Brantford Cycle Shop Corporate Partner Forest City Velodrome, London Ontario

Long time competitive cyclist Terry Detheridge who owns The Bicycle Shop on Clarence Street in Brantford, has signed on to be a new Corporate Partner in the Forest City Velodrome in London.

The Detheridge brothers began racing 35 years ago. "We raced regularly at the 125m indoor Delhi track in the early 1970's" said the track supporter. "When I heard about the London Project I knew that this is something that will bring track cycling back in the limelight in Ontario". "I like the VIP Gondola that looks over the track on the side of the building".

"The Madison programs planned for Saturday nights should be very well attended, I hear there are very talented riders that will come from the Detroit Track at Bloomer Park" said Detheridge.

This new track in London, will kick start a segment of the bicycle industry (track cycling) that has been very sluggish in recent years. I think there are many old time track riders dusting of their track bikes right now. Let's hope they are in good enough shape to do some racing.

The Bicycle Shop in Brantford is an all purpose store "from Trikes to Xtreme bikes".
