We did not post news yesterday due to technical problems with our internet connection, but there‚s lots to catch up on today! Blood Testing Extended The UCI has announced that they will „shortly‰ begin blood testing in mountain bike, track and cyclo-cross racing. This is an extension of the testing they began this Spring in the pro European road world. There have been a number of riders Œcaught‚ in the screening (which is mainly trying to detect EPO use), including Claudio Chiappuici. There has also been the spectacle of teams becoming suddenly stricken with illness and pulling out of races, plus the interesting statistic that average speeds for races have dropped by as much as 3 kilometres per hour. Are we likely to see such sudden changes in other areas of the sport? Maybe time gaps within races will drop... Giro (Tour of Italy) - Women Stage 1 92 km 1.
