We spoke with Chrissy Redden (Team Ritchey) about her win in Mammoth, California.

„The race started conservatively in the start loop, and I was 13th going into the main climb. I rode at my own pace, and slowly caught up to Ruthie (Matthes, Powerbar) and Tammy (Jacques, Toyota/Schwinn), who were 1 - 2. They were attacking each other - really aggressive - so I sat back and watched in third. On the second lap (of 3), Ruthie slowed up and Tammy surged, so I went with her.

At the top of the climb towards the end of the second lap I looked over my shoulder and could see there was some action happening back behind Ruthie. I didn‚t want to get caught, so I put the hammer down and dropped Tammy, and then I really punched it on the descent. I got 50 seconds by the end of the lap, and then got another minute in the final lap.‰

Chrissy said that it was really hot (mid-30‚s C), and dry. She also passed on the results of the men‚s race:

The 125 rider senior men‚s criterium at the Road Nationals today was fast and furious from the gun. There were many, many attacks on the 1.5 kilometre oval circuit around the Abbotsford Automall, but no one could stay away. Among the prime winners were National Time Trial champion Eric Wohlberg (Shaklee), Brian Walton (Saturn), Czeslaw Lukaszewicz (Québec) and Jacques Landry (Québec).

Walton was particularly aggressive, away repeatedly, only to get reeled in by the stronger teams (who didn‚t want a repeat of last week‚s Whiterock criterium, when Walton lapped the field twice). With 8 laps to go, Walton was caught after another breakaway, and Wohlberg counterattacked. He quickly went to 10 seconds, and was joined by 6 other riders, including Steve Rover (Québec). Eric didn‚t like his chances with this group, and attacked again with 2 laps to go, scooping up the last lap $200 gamblers prime, and taking the $1000 first place cash prize. Rover saw that the chase group was about to get caught by the main bunch, and broke clear, managing to hold on for second place.

Kokanee 24 Hrs of Adrenalin - Final Results

The Kokanee 24 Hours of Adrenalin at the Canmore Nordic Centre draws to a close on this Sunday, July 19th. Over 850 riders participated in the 24 hour event that makes it the largest mountain bike race in all of Alberta (based on number of participants!). It was an amazing weekend where the weather was perfect, the course challenging but not too tough, and the people who participated were exceptional! Everyone seemed to be here to have fun first and ride hard second. And fun they had. A walk through the pit areas would find not only tents but chairs of all kinds, full-camp set-ups and even sofas! Here are the results for the weekend race:
