More good news coming from the organizers of the Ontario Track Championships to be held at Bloomer Park in Detroit, Michigan. June
18-20th.

We have secured a sponsor for the awards at the Track Championships. The 5 Track disciplines ( Sprint, Kilo, Pursuit, Scratch Race, & Points Race ) will each have a monetary award to the overall top 5 in the "A" Division, Top 3 in "B" & "C" Divisions. This will be in addition to the Medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze ) for the top placing licensed Ontario riders in each event.

The Omnium winner for each division will also receive an Ontario Championship Jersey - (first time in a number of years).

Last weekend at the training camp we tested the new starting gate, electronic timing system, & finish line camera all worked great for fast &
accurate results.

Competition is open to any track racer from across Canada & the United States. The competition will be very fast & furious in each event over the weekend.

Junior riders are reminded that this event is a pre-qualifying event for the Junior Worlds to be held in LA. later this summer. Time Standards have been set by the CCA ( they are realistic & achievable ). So if you are of junior age & want to have the chance to represent Canada, plan on attending this meet.

As always for more information contact Rob Good 1-888-508-3944 for

2005 Ultimate Freeride Challenge
Courtesy Race Face

Race Face Performance Products, along with Giant Bicycles and Manitou Suspension is proud to announce the fourth annual Race Face Ultimate Freeride Challenge is officially underway. Videos are now being accepted for the US$25,000 "winner takes all" contest with the submission deadline set at February 1st, 2005. This gives riders over 7 months to plan, shoot and edit their videos in the hopes of gaining international exposure and ultimately making the short list of Freeriding's elite.

The contest, which spawned the pro riding careers of Tyler Klassen, Matt Hunter and Wayne Goss, along with UFC II runner up, Cameron McCaul and UFC III runner up, Carlin Dunne is now set to pull another talented rider from the amateur ranks and deliver them to superstardom.

Same as last year, a star-studded jury will judge all video entries and we'll pick our 16 favourite videos. Then the power shifts to our online community who will narrow those 16 videos down to 4 semi-finalists and then down to 2 finalists. And as final online voting continues, we'll bring both finalists in front of the industry and amid a flurry of media attention; we'll crown the UFC IV winner and sign them to a sponsorship contract with Race Face, Giant and Manitou worth over US$25,000!

"We're really excited to be going into our fourth straight year with the contest." says Race Face's Marshall Rutman. "Every year, the contest gains momentum and gets more exciting to watch. Last year, the quality of the entries was incredible and the online participation level was unreal. This year we're improving the contest, both for the participants and the viewers by making a couple changes to the contest format"

This year, riders will submit TWO 1 minute riding videos in addition to their 30 second lifestyle video. In the first round, the competitor's first 1 minute video will be posted for online voting and will determine whether they'll advance to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, we'll post the rider's second 1 minute video. This will give the online audience a better idea of the rider's skill and diversity and will help them make the tough choice of who should advance to the finals. Once in the finals, both 1 minute videos will be posted online, along with the rider's 30 second lifestyle video - which allows voters to gain insight into the rider's personality. Historically, this has been a huge component of this contest, strongly influencing final votes.

"I'm stoked on the new format for the contest" continues Rutman "Not only does it provide more entertainment value for our online community by showing them new videos in each round, it also gives riders more time to showcase the diversity of their skills. It definitely adds a strategic element to the contest as well. Will riders put their best footage in the first minute to make sure they get into the semi-finals or will they save their best footage for the second 1 minute video in the hopes of moving from the Semis to the Finals? I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out."

In addition to the new submission guidelines, Race Face, Giant and Manitou will also be awarding product prizes to all UFC competitors who, even though they didn't win, still had stand out sections of their videos - worthy of recognition. Once again conducted by online voting, awards will be given in the following categories:

• Best Line - Manitou Dorado MRD X-Works Fork
• Best Air - 2005 Giant Freeride Frameset
• Most Creative Stunt - Race Face Diabolus Kit
• Best Urban Assault - Giant STP Frame
• Breakout Performance by a Grom (13 and under) - Manitou Sherman Breakout Plus Fork
• Worst Crash - Race Face Arm and Leg Armor, Shorts, Jersey and Gloves

The deadline for submissions is February 1st, 2005. Contest start date and winner announcement date will be announced shortly.
