New Road Race on Ontario Calendar
ExtremeRoad.com presents the first annual Conestoga Road Race at St. Clements, Ontario on July 4, 2004. The new 9.6 km circuit is located just north of Waterloo, a few kilometres east of the well-known Bamberg loop used for the 2003 Provincial Road Championships.
Featuring a rolling terrain and two significant climbs, the course is an exceptionally challenging circuit with an estimated 500 vertical feet of climbing per lap including the (in)famous Hawkesville Hill ascent. With an extra-wide paved shoulder all the way up both sides of the climb and continuing over a stretch of one km past the peak and around the wide sweeping curve, the course has plenty of room in the most critical areas. There is even a paved shoulder on the outside of the final corner leading into a tough 300m climb to the finish. This circuit is very popular with local clubs and tri-athletes as they use it for training on a regular basis.
The schedule includes a full slate of categories with race distances based on the Ontario Cup standard. Registration will take place at St. Clements Arena and includes access to change rooms and showers along with a concession stand and parking. Maps and a course profile are now available at www.extremeroad.com. See the on-line technical guide or e-mail info@extremeroad.com for more details. See you there!
Help Wanted at Upcoming Ontario Road Races
With two big road races scheduled over the next few weeks, we are looking for some additional helpers on race day. Due to the overwhelming response on our web site, we're predicting a record turnout at the K-W Classic in Kitchener on June 13 and equally significant turnout at the Conestoga Road Race on July 4, 2004. We'd like to ensure a smoothly run event and as such are requesting that anyone who would like to help out please contact us as soon as possible at info@extremeroad.com. There is a budget to cover expenses for all helpers, plus a little extra.
The expected large rider turnout will require more service vehicles, so if you have mechanical experience and/or can provide a wheel van and driver, please let us know. We could also use more people at registration and at the finish line. Both individuals and groups are welcome to contact us. Thank you!
