Track Cycling in 2010 Bid

The Hamilton 2010 Commonwealth Games bid committee has announced the final selection of sports that they will include in their submission for the Games. Readers will remember the controversy that erupted back in the spring when the initial list of sports left off track cycling. We wrote stories which were picked up by the newspapers and cycling publications around the world, and protests flooded in to the bid committee. In particular, some Commonwealth Games organizations from other countries stated that they would have a hard time supporting a bid that did not include track cycling. Obviously, all the activity convinced the bid committee to put track cycling back in the program.

The official list of sports to be included in the Hamilton bid are:

Aquatics (swimming, diving, synchronized swimming) - mandatory sport
Athletics - mandatory sport
Lawn Bowls - mandatory sport
Netball - mandatory sport
Rugby - mandatory sport
Badminton
Boxing
Track Cycling
Road Cycling
Mountain Biking

Field Hockey
Gymnastics (artistic, rhythmic)
Shooting
Squash
Table Tennis
Weightlifting
