GP Beauce and Dionne Honoured

Le Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce Postes Canada and Charles Dionne were both awarded Mémoris d'Or at a recent ceremony in Quebec City. Full text of GP Beauce release follows.

Ville de Saint-Georges, 4 décembre 2003 - Le Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce Postes Canada présenté par Bell a remporté hier, (3 décembre) le Mémoris d'Or dans la catégorie événement de l'année lors de la 34e soirée Mémoris du Gala de l'athlète de Québec qui se déroulait au Capitole de Québec.

Le Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce était en compétition avec : le Championnat canadien universitaire de volleyball féminin, le Championnat canadien de volleyball de plage, les Championnats mondiaux des Maîtres de ski de fond, le Challenge Bell, le Concours hippique de Québec Air Canada Jazz et la Coupe du monde UCI de vélo de montage, Mont-Saint-Anne.

Il s'agit de la première fois que le Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce remporte un prix dans cette catégorie.

Rappelons que la 18e édition du Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce se déroulera du 17 au 22 juin 2003.


Wada Launches Educational Interactive Program

Montreal, December 2, 2002 - The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced today the launch of an educational interactive program for athletes, trainers and others involved in sports. The website contains information on doping in sport, a discussion forum, and an interactive game.

Through "The True Game", an interactive, multilingual game, players can enroll and test their knowledge of doping issues. The heroine of the game, a young athlete named Fair, has been sent to Earth to save the planet from doping. On each continent, with the aid of the player, Fair must answer questions on some aspect of the fight against doping, such as doping control procedures, ethics and the World Anti-Doping Code.

Visitors to the site can also consult medical, scientific and sociological information on doping in both French and English and share their opinions of these themes.

"This program demonstrates the importance we at WADA give to education and prevention of doping in sport," said Harri Syvasalmi, WADA's director general. "Our aim, as always, is to promote sport free of doping and by using the internet and an interactive game; we can reach young athletes through a medium they are familiar with."

The interactive program was originally financed jointly by the European Commission and WADA and will be further developed in the coming months.
