It's not mountain biking; but it looks a bit like it. It's not just cycling; though modified road racing bicycles are used. Plus, there's running involved while carrying the bike over obstacles and up hills too steep or slippery to ride. It's cyclocross.

Cyclocross has long been the way the European road racing scene has wound down in the fall. It is ideal for spectators, and cameras, since it consists of short laps run on compact open ground courses, often in public parks.

Midweek Club founder Peter McCaffery, who runs the expanding summer road racing series in the GTA and the elite Canadian men's Midweek Club road racing team, is hosting the 3 Nov 02 Southern Ontario Cyclocross event in Centennial Park, Etobicoke.

Five age categories will be competing in two events. Off at 11 am are the women, and men over 40 and under 18. The main event at 12:30 pm is for men ages 19 - 39.

Held under US Cycling Federation Permit

All classes start at 1pm, Warsaw Village Park-Liberty Street, Warsaw NY

Course: A classic course, wide, fast, run ups, off camber and blacktop. This venue has been used for many years and offers a variety of options for course design. There is a warm building to sign on and change, indoor bathroom, a shelter for spectators and the entire course is visible during the race. Bring the family and enjoy lunch in the small New York town. All races will be one hour. Course will be open for inspection by 12:00 noon.

Mountain bikes permitted with handlebar ends removed per USCF rules.

All riders need an approved helmet, riders under 18 need a signed parental consent form

Getting There: Park is located in downtown Warsaw off Liberty Street.

From the West: Take Route 400 down to route 20A in East Aurora. From there, travel east about 25 miles. As you enter town, you will proceed down a huge hill, after if flattens out, hook a right on Liberty Street, across from the high school. Go about 4 block, the park is on your right.

From Elsewhere: Warsaw is located right on route 19. Those coming from the north on 19 will take a right turn in the middle of town on route 20A, then proceed a couple of blocks and turn left on Liberty. Go a few blocks and the park is on your right. Those coming from the South may wish to reverse these directions.

Registration opens at 11:00 in the warming shelter and closes about 1/2 hour before start.

Entry Fee: $15.00, sign up right at the race, no late fee or unattached rider fee. Riders without a valid USCF license will need to purchase one at sign up. Canadian riders need a OCA License or may purchase a one day.
