Bastion Square Festival
100.3 The Q!'s Bastion Square Grand Prix
Winners of today's criteriums were Sandy Espeseth and Mike Korb.
Sandy (winner of both yesterday's Mount Tolnie Road Race and today's crit) spoke with us after her race. "I have been working lately with a group of young women, who worked with me to make my win possible. I do not have a team this year, so while I will be racing locally, I feel that I can spend my time putting back into the sport. After all I am the racer I am because of what others did for me when I was starting out.
Mike said of the men's race " My strategy was just to finish. There were a few crashes and I was able to avoid them. This is my first race since 1998, so I am happy"
Cameron Evans was 3rd today: "It was a very agressive and fast race. No let up at all. With 3 to go I started to move to the front and on the finishing straight i started the sprint. Two riders (Mike Korb and Luca Segato) managed to come by me."
Geoff Kabush, won yesterday's Road Race, but crashed badly today and did not finish: "I am disappointed. I spent a lot of time at the front, but I was being watched very closely so there was no chance to get away. I took a corner too wide and slid out. All I have is a broken fork and a lot of road rash...."
Results for the individual events and overall will be posted as soon as they are available.
