Team Saturn Report for Stage 6

This time it's Arndt for Saturn's Fifth Stage Win of the Tour de L'Aude - Teutenberg Still in Yellow

In what was described as apocalyptic weather today for the time trial on the roads around Castellnaudary, the cold pouring rain was a large part of the 32 kilometer test of truth. For the third consecutive day it was a Saturn rider climbing up to the first spot on the podium, this time Judith Arndt. The Yellow Jersey, Saturn Ina Teutenberg finished in fourth to maintain her lead of the Tour.

The course started by a long 10 kilometer uphill section, followed by a fast down hill and then a flat section only to go up again and then to a very fast return to Castellnaudary. Saturn's Arndt won the stage with a time of 46'01, averaging 41 km/hr.

Race Leader Teutenberg, better known for her sprinting skills than her time trialing skills, showed that the yellow jersey can bring determination to a whole new level. Teutenberg, racing on her Saturn teammate's Catherine Marsal's LeMond time trial bike for all advantage possible, finished a very impressive fourth.

As the race played out, it was Mirjam Melchers with the best split time of 23:58, Saturn's Arndt was at only four seconds behind her. In a true test of will, the two competitors stayed almost equal until the last kilometer when the Saturn rider moved ahead of Melchers, finishing by two seconds up on the eventual second place Dutchwoman.

Second place in the overall, Olga Zabellinskaia (Itera) finished a very strong third, 49 seconds behind Arndt, but only managed to take 15 seconds on race leader, Teutenberg. Arndt's outstanding ride moved her into second in the overall classification, 1:20 behind her Saturn teammate. Saturn riders Petra Rossner, Catherine Marsal and Kristy Scrymgeour raced conservatively, to be as rested as possible to aid Teutenberg in defending her lead through the finale on Sunday.

Tomorrow's 108 kilometers promise to make for a hard stage around Castellnaudary with a lot of short but sharp hills and narrow roads as is usual for the area. The entire peloton is hoping for better weather as they face the menu of 2 QOM sprints on category two climbs.
