Drug Scandels Continue at Giro
Stefano Garzelli (Mapei-Quick Step), overall leader of the Giro tested positive after stage 2 for the diuretic Probenicide, a known masking agent. Garzelli will continue to ride until the results of his second test are released (expected within the next day or two). Cadel evans is the highest placed rider for Mapei, so the team would begin to work for him. The result shows that drug use continues to plague professional road racing, despite, pronunciations to the contrary by the UCI and Tour de France organizers (after their scandal in 1998).
