Starting this week the organizers decided to run the Monday Night Series as a handicap event so that both novice riders and intermediate riders who want to develop their form and skills can have the opportunity to race against their peers. Before the race a 2 lap handicap sprint event was held. The results were intended to help riders to place themselves in either the handicap or scratch group.
Before the 24.0 km handicap race new riders were given the opportunity to ride five neutral laps and familiarize themselves with the circuit and the windy conditions.
Three riders (G. Hirsch, C. Ainsworth and I. Maclean) escaped the handicap group and held off the scratch group to finish out front. Junior rider Andrew Wilson made a brave attempt to bridge up to the leaders, though he did hold off the remains of the scratch group to take fourth place. Happy Pappy Duncan Jackson took the field sprint for 5th.
