Pigeon Lake Road Race Cancelled
Andy Holmwood - Alberta Bicycle Association
The most brutal Alberta spring in recent memory has claimed another victim - the Pigeon Lake Road Race, scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed until June 9. Hopefully, the temperature will climb above freezing and it won't be snowing then. This postponement follows the cancellation of a road event in Calgary last weekend, also due to poor weather.
Pigeon Lake is located approximately 75 km southwest of Edmonton. The undulating terrain, combined with windy and cool weather makes for challenging, selective racing.
If anyone has any doubts about the weather Calgary has been suffering through.. here is a photo from today's time trials held at the Glenmore Velodrome.
Chris Bentley sent the phot and the following message " It is actually May 4 though it looks, and felt more like January 4. Despite the cold everyone had fun and got in some good timed events."
