Plans for 2002 Road National Championships Coming Along

Ottawa, ON - After several months of disappointing news from various potential hosting venues, plans to hold the Road National Championships in and around South Western Ontario, are slowly coming together. While a number of issues have yet be finalized, the support of the Oxford County Council is fully in place.
With a short timeframe in which to organize this year's National Championships, the format will diverge slightly from traditional modern Road Championship format, in order to ensure the event takes place. The Time Trial, Criterium and Road Races will all be held in different areas of Oxford County, all within a 20 minute driving distance of each other.
Proposed locations for the events are as follows:
Masters and Junior Road Race - Township of Zora
Elite and Espoir Road Race - Woodstock
Criterium - Woodstock
Time Trials - Ingersoll / Tillsonburg
A dynamic group of individuals are in place, willing and eager to organize the event, spearheaded by Mr. Clive Egan. Clive was responsible for the successful execution of cycling events at last summer's Canada Games, in London, ON.
Earlier this year, decision of London City Council not to support the opportunity to host Road Nationals forced the CCA to search for another suitable location in the region. While we are all happy that the Road Nationals have found a home for 2002 in Oxford County, located between Hamilton and London, the compressed period of preparation time will probably make things more difficult for the local volunteers. However, the CCA has great confidence in the success of these Championships, due to a great organizing committee, solid community collaboration and the continued support of our title sponsor Tim Hortons.
