After an important construction year in 2001, it is now time to look towards the realization of the goals of the National Development Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada, and the organization hasn't neglected anything to do so.

Of course, the term "Development" of the Centre's title will not be forgotten and will again make the headlines of our programs. Our mission: to give an opportunity to all kids in the area to become one of the top cyclists in the country or even in the world, while respecting the logical steps of human development. To achieve these goals, four classes of programs will be on the 2002 calendar of the National Cycling Centre: Cycling Schools, Elite Programs, Selection, and Events.

In our Cycling Schools, young cyclists will have the opportunity to improve their mountain biking abilities with two weekly programs starting on April 20th (a two-week program touching most basic techniques) and May 4th (a four-week program touching more advance techniques and giving the opportunity to young riders to learn how to prepare a race). A little later in the season, young cyclists will have the chance to challenge themselves on the Vélodrome Caisse populaire Dieppe. Starting on June 17, an eight-week program will give them a good opportunity to learn the proper track techniques. Of course, the adult cyclist will not be forgotten as we will also offer them a chance to push their limits by offering Track 101 courses on the Vélodrome Caisse populaire Dieppe on Saturday mornings. We will see the track opened on its regular hours as well for riders purchasing their yearly pass.

The Centre will also hold its special events in 2002. We can already count on the organisation of the first High school MTB Provincial Championships (May 25th), the Jeux de l'Acadie (demonstration sport), a Track Eastern Cup (July 6th & 7th), a 50km of the 50th anniversary (July 6th), as well as the Atlantic Track Championships (September 14th & 15th). Meanwhile, the Centre will not forget the basic development stages by offering weekly regional events. The Mike's Bike Shop Cups will offer a four-week adult MTB series (starting May 23rd) as well as an eight-week track series (starting on July 23rd).

2002 will also see our first concrete results. The Elite program has already attracted many excellent riders from all four Atlantic Provinces and we should start collecting the podiums very shortly. Dieppe will also be represented around the country with our Selection participating at many national and international events during the next few months.

A season that promises to open the doors of success to our cyclists. It is up to you to join us! These are only a small glimpse of the activities happening at the National Development Cycling Centre this summer. Summer Employment

The National Developement Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada is currently accepting applications for two (2) summer students.

These persons will coordinate, supervise and coach certain cycling school programs of the Centre. These employment opportunities are part of the Young Canada Works program and are for a 12-week period. The criteria of this program are student at post-secondary level, aged 18 to 30 years old, willingness to further develop a second language, and willing to relocate in Dieppe, New Brunswick (thus, all candidates must be from outside New Brunswick). All candidates should also be registered in the www.campusworklink.com database (information on how to register is attached in Steps.PDF).

The successful candidates should:

• Currently be studying into a related post-secondary education program;
• Have cycling background;
• Experience in coaching and a National Coaching Certification (or willingness to take the course);
• Have a valid Driver's license;
• Be able to work with a variable schedule and to work with volunteers and young cyclists.

Please note that this program offers subsidies for lodging and travelling to and from Dieppe, New Brunswick.

Le Centre national de développement cycliste - Canada atlantique accepte présentement les candidatures pour deux (2) postes étudidants.

Ces personnes devront coordonner, superviser et entraîner certains volets du programme des Écoles cyclistes du Centre. Ces possibilités d'emplois font partie du programme Jeunesse Canada au travail et sont d'une durée de 12 semaines. Les critères de ce programme sont que les candidats doivent être inscrits à un programme post-secondaire, âgés de 18 à 30 ans et avoir la volonté d'être re-localisé à Dieppe, Nouveau-Brunswick pour la période de l'embauche (donc les candidats doivent être de l'extérieur du Nouveau-Brunswick). Tous les candidats doivent aussi être inscrits dans la banque de donnée de www.campusworklink.com (l'information sur comment s'inscrire est en annexe sous format Etapes.PDF).

Les candidates choisis devraient:

• Présentement être inscrit à un programme post-secondaire relatif;
• Avoir une expérience dans le monde du cyclisme;
• Avoir de l'expérience comme entraîneur de même que de posséder une certification nationale (ou le désir de suivre le cours);
• Avoir un permis de conducteur valide;
• Ëtre en mesure de travailler selon un horaire variable, de travailler avec des bénévoles de même qu'avec de jeunes cyclistes.

Il est bon de noter que ce programme offre une compensation quant au logement et au déplacement à Dieppe, Nouveau-Brunswick.
