Hilton Falls Trail Work April 13th - Request For Volunteers

Hilton Falls Conservation Area is asking for volunteers to help complete the extreme Bent Rim Trail within the park. This is the technical trail that W.O.W. designed over a year ago. Between persons unknown who have attempted to destroy the trail on 2 occasions, to really rough terrain, the last kilometre of the trail hasn't been properly finished. On Saturday April 13th at 9:30am volunteers are asked to contribute some sweat equity into finishing the trail and doing grooming on the entire route. Rakes are the most needed implement as well as tools like small pruners. Trail work will last for 3-4 hours followed by complimentary pizza and refreshment. Please contact the park at 905-854-0262 or at hiltonfalls@yahoo.com to let us know you're volunteering.

Track Racing in Trinidad

this report was received late on Saturday - ed

Hello all, another weekend of racing is upon us.

Last night was the official opening track event of the West Indies -vs- the World cycling series. Last weekend was a separate event (southern games). The event last night took place on a velodrome called "Skinners Park", quite ironic that this is the name....

Glen Rendall (from Ottawa) says " this track ain't nothing" as he has competed many times on the infamous Delhi track in Ontario. The track at Skinners Park is the southern part of Trinidad in the city of San Fernando. The people here love cycling, and packed the house (approx 1000 spectators) to watch the 30 international cyclists, plus 4 other groups of category riders compete in 4 events each category The track is fairly flat, only marginal banking and quite narrow (approx 2 meters wide).

The racing was very intense and fast paced. Glen Rendall and Ryan McKenzie raced international and spent the night in the pack, mixing it up with the 11 other countries. Travis Smith had our best showing in the category 1 event, placing 2nd in the opening 3 lap event.Joel Regimbald, Chris Bentley, Nick Corcoran all fared much better this opening night and were all very competitive in the category 1 field.

This venue will host the cyclists again next Friday night.

Today (Saturday), the riders move to the Arima velodrome. A 450 meter, "normal" looking velodrome. Arima is also a very cycling friendly community and the crowd is expected to be large again.
