San Sebastien Classic World Cup #6

Laurent Jalabert (CSC) has won the San Sebastien Classic World Cup race, outsprinting breakaway companions Davide Rebellin (Liquigas), Wladimir Belli (Fassa Bortolo) and Francesco Casagrande (Fassa Bortolo). Serge Baguet (Lotto) was the first of the chasers to finish. Jalabert attacked the peloton and brought a chase group up to a leading breakaway containing Belli and Paolo Bettini (Mapei) with approximately 37 kilometres to go in the 227 kilometre race. He kept forcing the pace until Belli, Casagrande and Rebellin were the only ones left. Erik Dekker (Rabobank) finishes back in the group (9th) but retains his World Cup lead.

Canada Cup Final - Sun Peaks Resort

The Dual was supposed to have taken place last night, but was cancelled due to lack of participants (only 10 entries). Today we have the cross-country, with a total of 202 riders registered:

10:00 (33 riders)
12:30 (61 riders)
14:30 (90 riders - 20 Pro women, 47 Pro men, 23 Junior Expert Men)

There are currently 110 registered for tomorrow's downhill.

Saturn Cycling Classic - Boulder, Colorado

Mike Barry (Senior) just called in to give us an update in this race from Boulder to Breckenridge, which is about to get underway. There are two Canadians among the 120 starters - his son Michael and Eric Wohlberg (both Saturn).

The course is insanely difficult: 14,000 feet of climbing in 225 kilometres. The riders ride over 7 passes; 2 of them over 11,500 feet. Mike says that they rode parts of the course and the descents are extremely treacherous - "dirt, washboard roads". Saturn has mountain bikes available for the first two riders on their team over the passes to use on the descents. Michael Barry is one of the favourites for the race.

Mike will try to call in updates during the race, but cellphone reception in the mountains can be unreliable.
