Website Upgrades

You may noticed that the speed of the Forums has gotten worse over the last few days (and that it was down a few times). We have been restructuring our network to put the Forums on its own server. That is now complete, and you should find that it works much faster as of this morning.

We have one more set of modifications to make this weekend, so the database servers (including the Forums) will be down for a few hours on Sunday morning. From that time on, if you have pages within the the site bookmarked, those bookmarks will no longer work. You will need to use www.canadiancyclist.com (and then you can re-bookmark internal pages if you want).

We apologize for the frustration you may have experienced over the past few weeks, but hopefully these upgrades will solve the problems.

Tour Rumours

Speculation still continues that the Tour organizers may throw out one or more teams caught in the Giro d'Italia drug raids. The organizers are said to have requested more information from Italian authorities and the UCI so that they can make a final decision.

If some teams are removed, who will replaced them? Favourites have to include Mercury-Viatel, Mario Cipollini's Saeco-Macchine Per Caffe squad and Marco Pantani's Mercatone Uno team. It is doubtful that all would get in.

At Beauce we were told by Mercury that they are anxiously awaiting a decision, but that the only member of the Beauce squad who would get the call is Henk Vogels.


New Distributor for Bell Sports Products

Bell Sports Inc. of Santa Cruz, CA. is pleased to announce that Outdoor Gear Canada (OGC) of St-Laurent, Québec has been appointed exclusive Canadian distributor of its Giro and Bell helmet brands as well as its Blackburn, VistaLite and CoPilot accessories, effective July 5, 2001.

OGC intends to have inventories of Bell and Giro helmets in its Montréal and Vancouver warehouses ready to ship to dealers by July 5.

Blackburn, VistaLite and CoPilot accessories will be available at a later date.

Bell Sports Canada will continue to take and ship dealer orders at its Calgary facility until July 11 to ensure a smooth distribution transition without interruption of supply to Canadian dealers and consumers

John Vanderburg, Bell Sports Canada's Director of Sales, will liaise with OGC to assist with the transition.

There will be no changes to any aspects of the Bell or Giro programs for the balance of the 2001 season according to both Bell Sports and OGC.

"Bell Sports Canada has done an outstanding job with both brands in Canada over the past few years and we recognize the tremendous challenge and opportunity Bell Sports Inc. has offered us," said David Bowman of OGC.

"OGC distributes a range of top-quality cycling products that fit well with the Bell and Giro brands and our Blackburn, VistaLite and CoPilot accessories," said Jay Romasco, Bell Sports' Vice President of Specialty Retailer Sales. "We expect our brands to continue along the path set out by Bell Sports Canada."
