April Fool's
Cycling Canada has announced that they are adding a new combined national championship award for 2025 - the Iron Beaver. The title will be awarded across Junior, U23, Elite and Masters categories, with the champions determined by combined time for riders across four current disciplines - Road, Mountain Bike (XCO), Cyclo-cross and Gravel. Winners will receive a unique national champion's jersey after the final event (Cyclo-cross).
"I sort of got this idea from reading Svein Tuft's book," admitted Josh Peacock, Director of Marketing & Events at Cycling Canada. "Svein is definitely the model for the Iron Beaver. Then I discussed it with Jen [Eaton, Events & Officials Manager] and the rest of my team, and everyone was onboard."
