Organizers for the 2020 Pan American Cyclo-cross Championships, scheduled to take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on November 7-8, have announced that the event has been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. FayetteCross was to take place at Centennial Park in Fayetteville, the site of the 2022 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships.
Arkansas currently has just under 30,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with approximately 800 new cases in the past 24 hours and 331 deaths.
Race Director Brook Watts commented, "We've made the decision in the interest of the health of athletes, spectators and the entire community of Northwest Arkansas. The good news is, we have made a commitment to stage FayetteCross on October 2-3 in 2021. People will be able to have a sneak peek at the 2022 World Championships course in Centennial Park. Our partners, sponsors and multiple athletes have agreed that this difficult decision is in the best interest of everyone involved."
This means that the current champions, including Canadian riders Maghalie Rochette (Elite women) and Ruby West (Under-23 women) will retain the jerseys.
Ruby West and Maghalie Rochette will retain their Pan Am Champs jerseys for another year.
