Many people think of custom cycling clothing as something only for pro teams and big cycling clubs, and it is true that in the past the cost and minimum order requirements were pretty onerous.  However, that is not the case any longer.  These days, any small club, event or even a family can easily put together a custom kit without breaking the bank.

Online ordering systems, modern materials and sublimation techniques, plus computerized production systems, have made it possible to create unique outfits for as few as 3-5 people.

Here are four Canadian-based suppliers that you should investigate.

Giordana

Giordana offers some of the most advanced technology cycling clothing in the world.  They work with Orica-Scott and Astana at the WorldTour level and with Silber Pro Cycling in Canada.  The Canadian distributor is Uno Imports.  They offer a vast range of clothing options, from pro level racing kit to more relaxed fit.  They also offer outerwear.  You can design your kit using their templates or provide your own.  The minimum quantity order is 10 units (5 for skinsuits).

Jakroo

Jakroo Canada is headed by Ron Hayman, former Canadian Olympian and one of Canada's first pro roadies.  Jakroo focusses exclusively on custom clothing with an extremely flexible ordering system that can be used for as few as one unit (although, as with all suppliers, the cost per unit decreases as the number goes up).  This year, Jakroo will sponsor the UnitedHealthcare team.  They have a very easy to use online system and you can work from their templates or use your own completely custom design.  We tested out the system with a small run of clothing - read our review Here.

Louis Garneau

Louis Garneau got his start making national team kit, and he continues to supply the Canadian team to this day.  The custom program has reduced required minimum units to a single unit, although real price savings start at a dozen units.  You can work from one of their templates or your own custom design.  They also boast that the majority of their production is in Canada.  Garneau can also offer coordination of design with outerwear, helmets, gloves and other accessories.

Sugoi

Sugoi began in the B.C. Lower Mainland and, although now under the Cannondale Sports Group umbrella (owned by Canadian conglomerate Dorel), all the design work still takes place in Vancouver.  Sugoi boasts no minimums, although price savings start with higher volumes.  Visit custom.sugoi.com.
