(courtesy Mike Badyk)
As you may have seen in the forums, it is with great sadness that we heard that Milton area mountain bike racer Rory Dick was killed in an accident south of Acton along with 2 of his friends, Travis Toth and Mark Everson. Rory's car was hit by a west bound passenger train at a level crossing. The 3 friends were on their way to high school in Milton. Exact details of the accident are still being investigated. We send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends and friends of all 3 young men.
Rory will be greatly missed by all of his friends at E.C. Drury High School in Milton, as well as his MTB team mates from Spokes 'N Slopes. We have many fond memories of him at Kelso and Hilton races. He was simply a sweet, loveable and sometimes goofy kid. He never failed to produce smiles. We're going to miss ya. The downhill at Kelso just isn't going to feel the same.
Rory and his two brothers were being raised solo by his mother. His father was killed in a car accident a few years ago. The family could really use some financial help at this time. Donations in Rory's name can be made at Spokes 'N Slopes in Milton. Phone is 905-876-7676 and the address is 89 Ontario St. North, Milton, ON. L9T 2T2. Funeral arrangements have not been finalized as yet. A fund-raising ride is being planned for Thanksgiving Monday, October 9th from 10am to noon. Details have yet to be finalized. We will post a follow-up message when we have the info. Go for a ride today and remember Rory.
