February 17/15 17:46 pm - Youth Cup Racing at the New Milton Velodrome

The Ontario Cycling Association is pleased to announce our 1st Youth Cup race at the New Milton Velodrome in 2015 will be held on Saturday February 21st.

Sign on and Number pickup will open at 2pm at the OCA office door (lower level by corner 4), with racing getting under way at 4pm.

Over 55 kids have registered so far, "we are looking for 70+ youth racers" said Greg Rawson the event organizer.  Registration will close at Noon on Wednesday.  Register here

There are age categories for the youngest racers in Ontario, U11, U13, U15 & U17.  Girls & Boys will compete separately for their own medals.

Rawson indicated, "after last weekend's first Ontario Cup event, we learned a few lessons about how the staging of riders needs to work", there will be more interaction with the announcer who will bring the riders to the staging area 5 minutes before the start time for each racer".  "This little adjustment will save 90 minutes at the end of the program".

There are 4 events scheduled for each Category, all racing will involve Standing Starts (hand held), the starting gates will be used at a later date.  The Events include: 250m, 500m, Kilo & Handi-Cap.  If time permits there will be a skills competition at the end of racing before awards.... A Crazy cone drill will test all the young athletes.... Details to be announced, just know it will not be easy.
