For local track riders, Friday, February 13th, is the culmination of an intense season of bicycle racing. They are all competing for the winner's jersey and the champion's title. Spectators will enjoy top-level bicycle racing with a food truck and beer garden as well.
The Feature Friday Night Race Series, hosted by the Burnaby Velodrome Club, has steadily been growing in popularity. "It's been a very competitive year," reported Kelyn Akuna, Race Director for the Burnaby Velodrome. "The spectators have especially enjoyed our races!"
Come early and enjoy on-site food, a beer garden, and great seats for the fastest bike races in town. The doors open at 6:30 and the starter's gun sounds at 7:00. Admission to the Harry Jerome Sports Centre, 7564 Barnet Highway, is just $5 per adult. With categories for novice, intermediate, advanced, and elite riders, there's sure to be a race you like.
The Burnaby Velodrome Club operates one of only two indoor cycling tracks in Canada and one of the fastest in North America. The track is open year-round for training and racing. Introductory, intermediate, and advanced programs happen weekly. The next Feature Friday Night Race will be held in the fall of 2015.
