Cycling enthusiasts looking forward to testing the track at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre will have to contain their excitement for a few more weeks.
Infrastructure Ontario and Toronto2015 have advised that the PanAm Test Events scheduled for October 16-25 (Milton International Challenge Oct 17-19 and Track Nationals Oct 22-25)) will be postponed until early in the New Year.
To accommodate this change the Town of Milton is adjusting its fall cycling programs and will be moving the opening day community event from November 1 to November 29.
“The Velodrome is a very unique project and it’s important to take the time to get it right,” said Gord Krantz, Milton Mayor. “Having to push our programs head by a few weeks isn’t ideal, but it’s certainly not going to dampen the community’s enthusiasm about this one-of-a-kind facility. When the doors open, I have no doubt that it will be worth the wait.”
All the planned program sessions for the fall and winter season will run, with a slightly later start and finish time than expected, with the winter session wrapping up by mid-April. In addition, some programs may be temporarily relocated to another facility, depending on the nature of the program.
The Town of Milton will be reaching out to registrants that have already signed on for sessions or joined as a member, and will update its website and social media sites with specific program changes.
