Thursday, July 31st, is a red-letter day for anyone with an interest in mountain biking as City8 presented by Monster Energy comes to place D'Youville in downtown Québec City for the second straight year. The event marks the official start of Vélirium presented by Vidéotron Mobile and will be a great chance to see some of the world's top mountain bikers in action on an all-new Dirt and Freestyle course designed by none other than Cameron Zink, a freeride legend and City8 competitor, who also worked on the course at X-Games.
FMB World Tour Gold Event
Returning for its second edition, the City8 contest in Québec City will be an official Gold event on the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour (FMB). With more ranking points up for grabs and a total prize purse of $30,000, City8 has reached new heights this year and is certain to be a highlight competition on the FMB event calendar. Moreover, the Gold event in the heart of Québec City will be the last chance for riders to qualify for the penultimate contest on the brand new FMB Diamond Series - the awesome Bearclaw Invitational. Riders that perform well at City8 and earn their starting place at the FMB Diamond Series contest at the end of August will be one step closer to potentially winning the FMB World Tour Championship title.
A new course designed with the public in mind
Redesigned to bring crowds closer to the action and make sure everyone sees the athletes in action for the duration of their runs, this year's course will be set up as a horseshoe at place D'Youville (see map). After last week's site visit with Cameron Zink and Jeremy Witek from Global Action Sports Solutions, it's been confirmed that the action will be confined to the same area, ensuring better views for the public. The course designers have now gone back to the drawing table to come up with the obstacles riders will be negotiating on July 31st!

Against Me! to bring the evening to a close
After the best athletes of the night take part in the CITY8 grand finale, punk rock group Against Me! will take to the stage at place D'Youville. Formed in 1997 by Laura Jane Grace (then Tom Gabel), the band has sold over 500,000 albums worldwide. Thursday, July 31st, promises to be a day to remember for punk rock fans eager to see the group perform for free in the heart of Québec City. Let's note that the famous Djs lllo and Vinyl Ritchie, invited by Monster Energy, will warm up the audience before leaving place D'Youville way to the punk rock formation!
