The 5-hour Energy presented by Kenda Racing Team confirmed it will return to the Tour of Alberta presented by ATB Financial, on September 2-7, for a second year. The Team also bolstered its roster for upcoming competitions in China and North America by adding Canadian climber Michael Woods.
The 5-hour Energy team is part of a select 15-team roster for the second consecutive year of the UCI 2.2 Tour of Alberta, on the UCI America Tour calendar. Reversing last year's direction, Canada's largest professional stage race will start in Calgary, Alberta's largest city and conclude in Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta. In 2013, the squad was the highest ranked UCI Continental team in second place in the team classification and Bobby Sweeting finished sixth overall.
On the Rivet Management signed Canadian Woods, 27, this week to the 5-hour Energy presented by Kenda Racing Team. Sidelined by injury from a successful running career which included national junior records in 2005, Woods turned to cycling. 2012 proved to be a turning point for the Ottawa-native. Selected to race with the Canadian National Team at the Tour de Beauce, he finished 20th overall. Two years later, he climbed to sixth overall at same event. A highlight was a second-place finish on Stage 2 with its steep four-kilometre climb to the finish atop Mont Megantic.
[Note: Woods raced with Amore Vita-Selle SMP at Beauce]
