Note:  The UCI has issued a statement regarding our report (below):  The UCI notes the press reports that the 2015 Track World Championships have been awarded to Aguascalientes, Mexico. These reports are incorrect. Other bids are under consideration and a formal decision has yet to be taken by the UCI Management Committee.

However, a statement through Copaci (Pan American federation) says:

The president of the Mexican Cycling Federation, Mr. Edgardo Hernández, confirmed that Aguascalientes will be the venue of the 2015 Track World Championships.

By an official note of CONADE (National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports), it was announced that Mexico obtained the venue of the 2015 Track Cycling World Championships after an agreement with Australia; where it was confirmed Aguascalientes is the official host city of the aforementioned competition.

Besides, it was announced that the first leg of the 2014 -2015 UCI Track Cycling World Cup will be in Guadalajara.

According to the CONADE's official note, the 2015 Track Cycling World Championships will be in Mexico for the first time, in February 2015, and Aguascalientes was confirmed after the arrival of a letter from Brian Cookson, President of UCI.

Edgardo Hernández indicated that Brian Cookson sent a letter to confirm Guadalajara as the venue of the first leg of 2014-2015 UCI Track Cycling World Cup in November 2014, and Aguascalientes as the venue of 2015 Track Cycling World Championships in February 2015.

Our original news item:

The UCI has not officially announced it, but the Mexican Sports Commission has stated that the 2015 Track World Championships will take place in Aguascalientes, Mexico.  The decision for the location is very late, with the 2016 Worlds have been awarded to London at the Olympic velodrome some time ago.  We had reports that the 2015 location was to be either Aguascalientes or Melbourne, Australia.

Aguascalientes is a very fast track, located 1800 metres above sea level, with seven world records set there last December at a World Cup race.  American Sarah Hammer also set the existing 3000 metre Women's Pursuit record on this track in 2010.
