Team TIBCO is in Belgium this week as they prepare for the Lotto-Belisol Tour. Nearly 200 of the world’s best riders are slated to start the UCI 2.2-category race. The Tour offers up four stages from Friday Aug. 23 to Monday Aug. 26. Team TIBCO sends a 6-rider squad including Shelley Olds, Claudia Haeusler, Chantal Blaak, Jasmin Glaesser, Melanie Spath and Lauren Stephens.
Racing opens Friday with a 19.75 kilometre Team Time Trial from Warquignies to Angreau. The rather technical course features cobbled sections, a few climbs and several turns. The remaining three stages are circuit races where fans will have a chance to watch the riders complete several laps.
Stage 2 takes riders through 9 laps totalling 110 kilometres in the town of Angreau. Sunday’s Stage 3 Omloop Ni jlen is pan flat for a total of 115 kilometres. The Tour concludes on Monday with the Stage 4 Omloop Geraardsbergen, totalling 87 kilometres. The 29-kilometre circuit is very hilly and includes two ascents up the notorious Kapelmuur climb - a cobbled berg with a gradient up to 20 percent.
