This has been one of the worst kept secrets of the past couple of months, after Australian UCI members started leaking it, however, now it is official - Cairns, Australia will host the 2017 Mountain Bike World Championships.  What is less known, is that it is part of a four year agreement, leading up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the region.

In 2014 and 2016 Cairns will host World Cups, and in the other two years - 2015 and 2017 - the Australian island state of Tasmania is set to host World Cups.  In 2017, the Tasmanian event will be the World Cup Final leading into the Worlds.

Also, unofficially, Mexico has bid for the 2015 Worlds.  The event will be held in the Mexico City region.  At this time, we believe that this is the only bid submitted for the 2015 Worlds.

This could work quite well for North America, with the Pan Am Games prior to Worlds in the same hemisphere and, therefore, there are likely to be the final rounds of the World Cup in locations such as Mont Ste Anne and Windham.
