March 9/13 10:16 am - Ronde van Drenthe results

Sub-zero temperatures, wind and rain colored Saturday’s Ronde van Drenthe World Cup. While several crashes took down four of five Team TIBCO riders, the day was salvaged when the Team’s Jasmin Glaesser (Can) made the lead group and won the Sprinter’s Jersey and Best Young Rider award. Despite some bad luck on the cobbles, Shelley Olds (USA) was also able to make it up to the front group and finished 6th overall as the best-placed American. Marianne Vos won the season’s first UCI Road World Cup event in her home country.

Certainly, it was a mixed day for the Team as they embarked on their second day of racing in the trio of Drenthe races this week. Chantal Blaak didn’t take to the start, and took some much-needed rest after a crash at Drentse 8 a couple of days ago. With a reduced squad of 5 riders, the Team faced unforgiving conditions. Claudia Hausler, Rushlee Buchanan, Samantha Schneider and Olds were all involved in an early crash. Schneider was taken out of the race and transported to the hospital for x-rays. While Olds would crash twice more, she was able to make the front group and sprint to a top finish. Glaesser was able to escape the crashes and put up an impressive performance in her first-ever World Cup race.
