Ecole St. Cecilia School (610 Agate Crescent, S.E. Calgary (west on Southland Dr. past Blackfoot)) is hosting our fourth annual bicycle recycle and exchange event. Families are encouraged to donate to the school any bikes or parts that they have out-grown, and have the opportunity to get another bike for the upcoming summer that will fit better. We had 272 bikes donated and over 700 people in attendance in 2012, and were able to find homes for all but 12 of the bikes. We also collected used parts, which were then passed on along with the 12 bikes to Bikes for Humanity, as well as the school making a cash donation to the organization.
Those donating a working bike will receive a $10 voucher (per bike) that can be exchanged towards a different bike. All bikes will be sold on Saturday April 21st, between 10:00am and 1:00pm for $20 (maximum one voucher per bike). People donating a bike this year will be allowed early entrance at 9:00 am. We are also opening up our collections again this year to include used bike parts.
This is a great way to make some space in the garage or shed, and know that you have helped your friends and community by reducing the need to purchase a new bike when your family has one that is no longer needed. It also encourages the re-use of our bicycles, and helps ensure that kids have easy access to healthy activities.
Bicycles and parts that do not find a home during our event will be donated to other organizations or recycled. We are accepting all bikes from tricycles to adults. Bike drop offs will be accepted Thursday, April 18th, and Friday, April 19th, from 3:30 to 6:30 pm each day. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate, please contact us for possible pick ups. Last year we had 272 bikes find new homes, this time we hope for 300.
