After eight great years on the Cycling BC road race calendar, organizers of the annual Westside Cycling Classic have had to make the difficult decision to not hold the event in 2013 due to lack of funding.
Event founder and organizer, Jonathan Wornell, reflected that, "the event had become a cornerstone of the Cycling BC race calendar since the Wedgewood Cycling Team organized the first race back in 2005. We made a concerted effort to offer the greatest possible race experience to racers while also supporting the Provincial race scene."
The event grew over the past five years in large part due to the tremendous partnership with the BC Cancer Foundation, and strong partnerships with supporters of the cycling community, such as TNA, Shape Properties, Mosaic Homes, and The Bike Gallery.
"We will continue to look for new sponsors for this great event so that the event may return to the Provincial calendar in 2014," say current organizers Linda Wong and Jonathan Wornell. "Races like these are key elements in helping to develop future Olympians for the sport of Cycling," Wornell added.
Racers in BC can check Cycling BC's event calendar for available races within the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island, including the races of BC Superweek.
Finally, a big thanks goes to long time partners of the Westside Cycling Classic:
