Greg Herbold Signs Product Development Deal with Race Face

Vancouver, B.C. - Race Face Components Inc., one of North America's leading producers of high performance mountain bike components and clothing, is proud to announce that it has signed American mountain bike racing legend Greg 'H-Ball' Herbold to a multi-year product development and promotion contract. Starting immediately and continuing through 2002, H-Ball will ride Race Face cranks, bottom brackets chain-rings, seatposts, stems, handlebars, and headsets when riding and promoting the sport of mountain biking.

"We're obviously very excited about signing Greg," said Craig Pollack, President of Race Face. "He is a class act, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the R&D front with his experience as a product tester with Scott, SRAM, Rock Shox, and the other companies he is affiliated with. As one of our sport's most recognized and flamboyant personalities, 'H-Ball' is an excellent fit for our brand and will continue to provide excellent exposure for our Race Face."

"Greg has proven his commitment to excellence in both his racing career and in building the sport. Herbold, along with John Tomac and the rest of our sponsored riders, will be an integral part of our R&D and promotion team, providing valuable technical feedback that will help us continue to develop components that are both innovative and durable, and keeping our name fresh," added Pollack.

Greg has an impressive racing history. He won the first UCI World Downhill Championship in Durango, Colorado in 1990; was three-time NORBA National Downhill Champ in 1988,1989 & 1993; was the winner of the first Dual Slalom Race at Mammoth Mountain in 1987. A North American Downhill title in 1991 as well as 25 other victories in his 10 year racing career garnered him an induction into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 1996.

From the US Track Trial in Frisco, Texas...

Yesterday (April 25th) was the first day of racing which included the women's 3000m pursuit, and the men's 1000m time trial (Kilo). The morning was perfect conditions for the women, which saw Mandy Poitras (Intersports) place an impressive 6th with a personal best time of 3:52.765, and Andrea Hannos 9th at 4:01.096. Other Canadians included Erin Carter 7th at 3:53.96 and Stephanie Hannos 11th at 4:03.975.

The evening brought a Kilo competition of 41 riders. The weather again just perfect, 24C with next to no wind. Tyler Hansen riding to a personal best time of 1:09.135 for 12th place, and myself a 1:07.786 good for 5th, just being edged out by fellow Canadian Jimmy "Superfly" Fisher who was 4th with a 1:07.238. Doug Baron also had a fabulous ride placing 2nd at 1:05.761.

After a late night kilo Tuesday night, it was up early Wednesday for the Olympic sprint event. And, of course, once again, unbelievable weather conditions. This was the first time our team of Keith Bruneau, Tyler Hansen and myself have had the opportunity to ride together for this event, but through our individual event training we came together for a super smooth and successful ride. Riding in an early heat against fellow Canadian/Shaklee team, we could only wait to see if or for how long our 3rd place at the time would hold up. Shaklee qualified 2nd. We hung on for some time and ended up with a final placing of 5th with a time of 49.196sec. - just out of the semi-final ride. But all-in-all a very smooth, fast ride for the first of the season. Certainly a positive for the early season and something to build on.

This evening Mandy competed in the women's 5 mile scratch race, winning a long pack sprint in a very close photo finish. Congrats to Mandy!
