Trans-Canada Cancelled

Rumours have been circulating for a few weeks now that the Tour Trans-Canada, scheduled to take place September 1-10, would be cancelled. We finally have confirmation that the race is cancelled for 2000 due to lack of funding. The race has received money from both the Federal and Quebec governments, but has not been able to attract a title sponsor. We are hoping to obtain more information later in the week.

However, it now looks like GP Beauce (June 13-18) is the only major international sanctioned pro men's stage race in North America for 2000.

Jeanson To Do Fleche-Walloon

We just received word that Genevieve Jeanson has made a last minute decision to enter tomorrow's Fleche-Walloon women's World Cup. She will be trying to attain her second qualifying result for the Olympic athlete pool. Tomorrow's race will suit her more than the Australian World Cup, since it is a very tough course, with a major climb - the Mur de Huy. However, she will also be up against all the major Euro teams, most of whom were not in Australia. Leigh Hobson will also be racing Fleche, and is in a similar position of trying to get her second qualifying result.
