Cycling Canada Cyclisme (formerly known as the CCA) has quietly announced that the the Canmore Canada Cup (scheduled for July 15th) has been cancelled for 2012. In a statement, no specific reason was given, other than: "Cycling Canada Cyclisme worked with stakeholders and organizers from Western Canada to investigate alternative options for this event, but ultimately it has been unable to find a solution acceptable to replace the event."
This means that the cross-country series will consist of three events only - Mont Tremblant (last week), Baie St Paul (this weekend) and Hardwood (next weekend). There will be no western events in the series this year. The best two out of three events will count for the overall standings.
The Downhill series had already been reduced to two events - Mont Tremblant and the final in Panorama, BC, on July 29th.
