Sydor Wins!
Chrissy Redden (Gary Fisher-Saab) has just called in from Mazatlan, Mexico to say that Alison Sydor (Volvo-Cannondale) won, and she finished fourth in today's second round of the World Cup, a 5 lap race for the women. Alison Dunlap (Team GT) was second, Laurence Leboucher (Team GT) third, Chrissy fourth and last week's winner Mary Grigson (Gary Fisher-Saab) fifth.
Chrissy was actually a little disappointed with her result: "I had really good legs today, and a great start. I was sitting in second, about 20 seconds back of Alison, and then towards the end of the second lap I lost focus for just a second and bought it hard. I went right over the bars, surfing on the rocks."
"By the time I got going again, Alison (Dunlap) had caught up to me. We stayed together for a lap, but she was stronger on the hills than me. Then, in the last 10 minutes of the race, Laurence Leboucher caught me and went by like a bullet."
Chrissy also said that "you had to be smooth in all the corners; it was really sandy and easy to go down if you lost your concentration. Both Alisons were really smooth and had no crashes."
Dunlap will take over the women's lead, followed by Sydor, Grigson and Redden.
