The Director, Ride to Conquer Cancer plays a lead role in achieving The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation’s fundraising goals and in advancing The Princess Margaret’s vision to Conquer Cancer in our Lifetime.
The Director is responsible for the strategic leadership of a dedicated, integrated and prioritized plan to maximize revenue for the Ride to Conquer Cancer. This leadership role includes development of the plan as well as its implementation and ongoing management.
In addition to strategic leadership, the Director, Ride to Conquer Cancer is held to account to:
• Set and support the achievement of the annual Ride fundraising goal for the Foundation
• Create win-win partnerships that, by aligning the interests of Riders and Teams with those of The Princess Margaret, increase, improve and deepen PMHF’s alliances with leading Ride Ambassadors to ensure the achievement of goals set out in the plan
• Establish and provide leadership to the Ride
• Work with and manage our event Agency
• Team member of the Business Development group within PMHF
• Utilize PMHF’s Ride to Conquer Cancer Advisory Committee for oversight and guidance in the role including, but not limited to:
- continued reinvention of the Ride to maintain is role as Canada’s #1 event fundraiser,
- identification of key corporate and community sector riders and teams,
- identification of prospective sponsors of the Ride to Conquer Cancer
Key Responsibilities:
I. Strategy Development/Leadership
• Develop, and ultimately implement, an integrated Ride to Conquer Cancer business plan including strategies related annual registration, fundraising, re-registration, corporate sponsorship, and cause marketing;
• Identify and develop selection criteria and strategies for securing new corporate partners and teams
II. Relationship Building & Management
• Lead the identification, cultivation and stewardship of long-term Ride Ambassadors, corporate & community teams;
• Cultivate effective relationships within the hospital to support program alignment, volunteer opportunities, donor cultivation, and stewardship
III. Operational Management
• Develop compelling proposals, marketing materials and reports for corporate & community teams and prospects;
• Coordinate account and prospect management to ensure collaborative efforts in corporate opportunities across PMHF;
• In partnership with our Ride to Conquer Cancer team, ensure the completion of sponsor fulfillment requirements and exceptional stewardship of corporate supporters;
• Partner with Corporate Account Managers in Business Development, Strategic Initiatives, Major Gifts and Community Giving, and with volunteers to achieve goals with corporations;
• As a team player, you will support other Foundation related programs and understand that “Other duties as required” is not just four words at the end of a job description
Supervision/Direction Given to Others:
• Direct Reports: none
• Other Foundation staff:
- leadership to cross-Foundational staff team
- support to and guidance from PMHF Ride Advisory Committee
- Leadership / direction to our event execution agency
Contacts:
Internal: Foundation staff, specific levels and business units
External: Leaders and staff of Canadian corporations, community teams, hospital leadership, senior volunteers, agency partners
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum four year undergraduate degree in a relevant field required
Experience:
• Minimum of ten years progressive leadership experience in fundraising, business development, sponsorship, sales and/or marketing with a not-for-profit, a for profit business or an agency
• Strong strategic orientation and experience in establishing and executing long-term plans while leveraging immediate opportunities and managing short-term objectives
• Proven track record in identifying strategic business development opportunities and developing and leading such initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, with proven interpersonal savvy and a keen sense of diplomacy
• Experience working in a large, complex organization building consensus and achieving results
• Solid business acumen along with advanced analytical and financial modeling experience
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, including corporate partners, volunteers, and hospital representatives
• Superior communications skills, writing, budgeting, and interpersonal skills, in addition to well-developed presentation abilities
• Cycling & event management experience is beneficial
