UCI Management Committee meeting in St. Wendel

The Management Committee of the International Cycling Union (UCI) met for the first time this year at St. Wendel in Germany on the occasion of the 2011 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships to be held this weekend.
 
The Management Committee awarded the following UCI World Championships at this meeting:
• 2011 Juniors Track: Moscow (Russia).
• 2011, 2012 and 2013 Masters Track: Manchester (Great Britain)
• 2013 Para-cycling Road: Baie-Comeau (Canada)
• 2013 Indoor Cycling: Basel (Switzerland).

Furthermore, the final of the 2011 UCI World Cycling Tour was awarded to Liège (Belgium).

The Management Committee also approved the following calendars:
• 2011-2012 UCI Cyclo-cross International Calendar
• 2011-2012 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Calendar (scheduled rounds: Plzen, Tabor, Koksijde, Igorre, Namur, Heusden-Zolder, Liévin and Hoogerheide)
• 2011 BMX Supercross Calendar (scheduled rounds: Pietermaritzburg, Papendal, London, Sarasota and Chula Vista)
• 2011 P1-P2 Para-cycling Calendar
• 2011 Para-cycling World Cup Calendar
• 2011 UCI Cycling for All International Calendar
• 2012 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup provisional calendar.

The Management Committee also approved the creation of an Athletes Commission responsible for overseeing the interests of cyclists of all disciplines. The UCI Athletes Commission will comprise 14 members (riders who are currently active or who have been retired for one or two years). Eight members will be appointed by the electoral colleges of each discipline (Road, Track, Mountain Bike, BMX, Para-cycling and Cyclo-cross), while six other members will be selected by the UCI in order to guarantee a balance of disciplines and genders as well as the Commission's universality in geographical terms.

Mr Beat Wabel from Switzerland, a former World Champion, has been appointed to the UCI Cyclo-cross Commission. In the administrative department, Mr Alain Siegrist (SUI) was appointed UCI Finance Director.

The Management Committee also confirmed the new denomination of the body previously known as the "UCI ProTour Council" which is now replaced by the "Professional Cycling Council" (PCC). It also confirmed the progressive prohibition of the use of two-way radio in the interests of maintaining the quality of the sporting spectacle. The Management Committee will however constantly monitor the effects of this measure.
