Saturday January 29th - 2011 Tim Hortons Winter Nationals
Ontario Track racers will be in heaven over the next 7 days. First up this weekend is the Tim Hortons 2011 Winter Nationals which kick off the racing action. The 4 event Omnium will begin at Noon on Saturday. 7 categories will take to the boards at the FCV, to see which rider will have the best early season legs.
The 4 events will include 2k, Kilo, 500m & flying lap for all competitors. Because these are individual events many new racers will be participating. All the events will be timed using the Forest City Velodrome's chip timing system. Racers will be attending from The United States and Quebec for this mid winter classic.
Special thanks goes to the local London Tim Hortons retail locations for their sponsorship of this event, We recommend that if you are having a coffee at any Tim's location in Canada you thanks them for supporting cycling.
Racing will continue at night with the mass start events taking to the track at 7pm. Admission is $10.00 for adults, with seniors $5.00 and Kids are always "FREE".
The Forest City Velodrome is an indoor bicycle track, located at (the Icehouse) Highway #401 and Wellington Rd in London Ontario.
Saturday February 5th - Thor Espresso Bar Challenge
If that's not enough, in seven short days the Pro's are back on track to fight it out for a $5,000.00 purse and $2,500.00 to win at the Thor Espresso Bar Challenge. 190.35 kms (1380 laps) of action begins Saturday Feb 5th at 6pm.
Rider registration closes on Wednesday February 2nd. The provisional start list will be released next Thursday.
Riders from Ontario, Quebec, United States and England have committed to lining up for the start. Everyone will have their own race strategy.... the race will have Nascar style pit stops and is estimated to be completed by 10:30pm. Riders must be within 100 laps of the lead rider to receive their prize. There are limited rules for this event, controls will be in place to make sure this high profile event will be a success.
