The fifth annual Fitz of Fury will play host to Bicycle Nova Scotia’s Mountain Bike Provincial Championships next weekend on some of the toughest terrain in the province.

The race, hosted by PedalTrout.com and Pictou County Cycle, appeals to over one hundred youth, men and women annually. It will involve significant amounts of climbing as well as fast and technical mountain bike racing down the stunning Fitzpatrick Mountain in Scotsburn, Pictou County next Sunday, July 18. The wildest, toughest riders will take on trails widely considered the most fun and one of the best undulating single tracks anywhere in the province.

Registration will take place before the race at the ball field at the base of Fitzpatrick Mountain, starting 8:30 for youth in divisions under 13, 15 and 17. The race will follow at 10 a.m..

The older crazy adult racers can queue up for registration from 8:30 to  11:30 a.m., then prepare for their grueling race at noon sharp.

“This race offers a fun experience to all participants. Anyone ever hoping to take on a challenging mountain can do so here,” said Bill Goldston, spokesman for Bicycle Nova Scotia.

All participants are required to have a Bicycle Nova Scotia license to race in the event.  One event licenses can be purchased at the time of registration.

Prizes will be awarded for top ranking mountain bike challengers in all divisions after they conquer the several laps of the eight kilometer loop across stunning scenery. In previous years, up to 100 have participated in the race.

Directions: From Route 104 (Trans Canada Highway)
EASTBOUND (from Truro, Halifax, Halifax International Airport, or New Brunswick) - Take Exit 19 (Saltsprings) to Route 4, turn right, travel 5 kilometers, turn left on Route 376, travel 5 kilometers, turn left on Durham Rd. to Scotsburn, Ballfield will be on your left.
WESTBOUND - Take Exit 21 (Cowan St, Westville, Alma) to Route 4, turn right, travel 10 kilometers, turn right on Route 376, travel 5 kilometers, turn left on Durham Rd. to Scotsburn, Ballfield will be on you left.
