Le Tour De Terra Cotta - Ontario

2010 marks the sixth anniversary of Le Tour de Terra Cotta, the only European Style Road race held in Ontario. Three events are held on the scenic and challenging nine kilometre course in the hills of the Niagara Escarpment. The event continues to gain popularity every year since inception as the number of racers and spectators grow - 600 riders are expected to participate this August. Although most participants come from the Golden Horseshoe, we have welcomed riders from across Canada and the United States, and as far as Italy. Created as a Citizen's Race based on the vision of one man, his community, his cycling club and sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association, Le Tour De Terra Cotta is known for its uniqueness and is fast becoming a must attend event.

What: The 6th annual Le Tour de Terra Cotta cycling extravaganza. The only race of its kind in Ontario, Le Tour de Terra Cotta offers three events. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Kids is a great way to introduce children ages 8-16 to cycling for fun and health and to ensure the sports longevity. The 2010 Youth Race will include a Time Trail. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Adult Short Course is a 3 lap (27 kilometre) course for new riders, tri-athletes in training or for those who prefer a shorter course. The signature event, Le Tour de Terra Cotta Classic is 12 laps (108 kilometres) of Classic European Style Racing for licensed riders, or those who have purchased a one day license. All events offer an unique experience for riders and spectators alike.

When: Monday, August 2, 2010. Registration starts at 6:30 am Continental breakfast, lunch and food items will be for sale at the start/finish line beginning at 7 am. Le Tour de Terra Cotta Kids begins at 8:00 am, (time trial begins at 7:00 am for those participating in the OCA Youth Cup Series Points accumulation). Le Tour de Terra Cotta Adult Short Course start time scheduled for 9:30 am, Le Tour de Terra Cotta Classic begins at 11 am, with the events ending at 2 pm.

Where: The quaint hamlet of Terra Cotta located on the western border of Caledon, bordering Halton Region. The start/finish line for all events is near the Forge Pavilion on King St. The route follows Heritage Road, Old School Road, Winston Churchill Blvd and King Street and will all be closed on the day of the event.

Who: This event is run entirely by volunteers from the community and local cycling clubs. It was started in 2005 by Ted Webb and the Terra Cotta Community Centre and is sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association. This year, proceeds from the event will go to The Terra Cotta Community Hall, a designated Caledon Heritage Building built in 1862, to help with its refurbishing scheduled to start in 2010.
