Rocky Mountain Bicycles is proud to announce the signing of legendary freerider and trail builder Dave Smutok.
"I've seen Dave compete several times and not only are his skills impressive, but his popularity and crowd appeal are huge", says Rocky Mountain team manager, Peter Vallance. "We didn't plan on adding more riders to our roster for next season, but when we heard that Dave was available, we had to try to get him."
A gifted athlete, Dave began his athletic career as a cross-country ski racer and won several junior national championships. In 2003, Dave turned his focus from skiing to mountain biking and quickly became a staple in the sport. With little more than a year of experience under his belt, Dave was invited to the 2004 Red Bull Bike Battle where he rose to the top taking the gold medal. Since then he has been invited to some of the most prestigious events in the sport, including the Kokanee Crankworx, Monster Park, and Adidas-Slopestlye events.
In addition to his role as a freeride icon, Dave is a talented all mountain rider and has played an instrumental role in the development of the Highland Mountain Bike Park in Northfield, New Hampshire. With the help of Dave and his trail crew, park visits have doubled annually as the parks terrain progresses with new trends in the sport.
Vallance adds, "Dave's involvement with Highland, the highest profile mountain bike park in the U.S., is a big asset for us. In addition to the park, Dave also gives us valuable presence in the East Coast U.S., something we've been lacking previously."
Dave will be campaigning on Rocky Mountain's new Flow DJ, Slayer SS 427, and Flatline Pro in 2009. .
