Sports groups may sue in bid to save velodrome
The fight to save the Juan de Fuca Velodrome is building steam.

Chris Anstey, president of the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association, said five provincial and national sports organizations are supporting the legal battle to preserve the velodrome, including PacificSport, the Canadian Sport Centre- Pacific, the Canadian Cycling Association, Triathlon Canada and Cycling B.C.

Ullrich awarded 340,000 euros after winning legal battle
The former boss of the Coast cycling team was on Wednesday ordered by a German court to pay Jan Ullrich 340,000 euros (432,000 dollars) plus interest for failing to honour outstanding wages due to the now retired cyclist. Guenther Dahms refused to pay Ullrich the money due to him because he was of the opinion the 1997 Tour de France winner was doped during his time with the Coast team.

Big Crowd Turns out to Show Tara Llanes Love
On Saturday November 8, 2008, dozens of mountain bike 4-Cross racers turned out to compete at the Sand Hill Ranch Bike Park in Brentwood, CA. The event was Race for Tara 2, the second annual race created to benefit MTB pro Tara Llanes.

The former Dual Slalom National Champion suffered a severe spinal injury in a crash during a mountain bike race in Colorado on Sept. 1, 2007. Since then fellow pros, fans, and friends, have rallied around Tara as she has made remarkable progress in her recovery and rehabilitation.

Several of Tara's team mates on the Giant Mountain Bike team turned out for Race for Tara 2. US National XC and Super D champ Adam Craig and 4-time Australian National Champion Jared Rando both competed in the Pro 4-Cross event. Jared wound up placing 2nd overall.

Susan Peithman believes Milwaukee "is primed to be the next bike city."

What's surprising about that bit of optimism is Peithman lives in Portland, one of the country's most bike-friendly cities, a place where about 5,000 commuters pedal across the Hawthorne St. bridge every day.
In Portland, commuters don't ride in isolation. They ride in packs.

Delhi could lose Commonwealth Games
New Delhi could lose the right to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games if organisers are forced to shift the athletes' village from its present location, a senior Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) official said.

The panel also raised concerns over the delay in starting the velodrome construction and urged the organising committee chiefs to intensify their overall efforts.

2010 CWG: a few concerns remain
The Coordination Commission of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) on Tuesday expressed concern about the non-commencement of the construction work on the cycling velodrome.

After its fourth review meeting with the 2010 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OCCG) and various Government agencies, the Commission said, except for the velodrome, it was satisfied with the progress of the construction work at different venues.

CONI recommends 1-year doping ban for Sella
The Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping prosecutor recommended banning Emanuele Sella for one year instead of two on Tuesday after the cyclist admitted to doping during the Giro d'Italia.

Sella, the top climber in this year's Giro, tested positive in July for the blood booster EPO following an out-of-competion test ordered by the International Cycling Union.

NYC proposes bike parking rules in new buildings
Officials are proposing new rules that would greatly expand bicycle parking in apartment and office buildings around the city, the latest step in a plan to make New York one of the most bike-friendly places in the nation.

They believe making bicycle parking more available in buildings will motivate more New Yorkers to cycle to work or perform errands on bike.

Surveys show that the lack of secure bicycle parking prevents New Yorkers from riding bikes. Some people are leery of leaving even locked bikes on the street for fear they will get stolen, and many places restrict people from parking bikes on the sidewalk in front of buildings.

The rules would require one secure bike parking space for every two units in new apartment buildings and one space for every 7,500 square feet in new office buildings.

Trips for Kids to Host 11th Annual "Brews, Bikes and Bucks" Party
Trips for Kids' annual "Brews, Bikes and Bucks" party will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 at the Broken Drum Brewery (1132 Fourth Street, San Rafael, Calif.) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Now in its 11th year, this fundraiser has become a much-anticipated tradition. Mountain biking legends likely to attend include Gary Fisher, Tom Ritchey, Joe Breeze, Ned Overend, Scott Nicol, Jacquie Phelan, Otis Guy, Ross Shafer, Charles Kelly, Mert Lawwill and Chris Lang.
