Mark Walters Considers Retirement
On Friday, Team Race Pro announced its roster for next season (see Daily News: November 7/08 5pm EST - Team R.A.C.E. Pro Strengthens its Roster for 2009). One significant name was missing from the list: Mark Walters. We contacted Team Race Pro director Steve Bauer, and he confirmed that Walters would not return to the squad for next season: Mark will not continue with us this year. Very tough choices.
We then contacted Mark, who responded by e-mail:
It looks like I'm retiring. Steve and I couldn't come to an agreement and finding another team seems impossible in this market, with so many other riders out of a job.
[I am] still looking, but right now it doesn't look good ... I have a couple of feelers out with Euro teams, but not sure I want to go that route either. I am pursuing coaching either way - have a couple riders now, but looking to take on about 10 riders.
Mark says to contact him if you are interested in coaching - robyn1mark@aol.com.
