Two Riders Fail Blood Controls at Track Worlds
It is still an hour until the first event starts at the Track Worlds in Manchester, and already two riders have been pulled due to high haematocrit levels (technically, they are declared "unfit for racing". The two are Pim Ligthart of the Netherlands and, in a huge embarrassment for the host Great Britain, their own Rob Hayles, who was due to race the Individual Pursuit today.
According to a source in the British camp, Hayles was tested within the national program on March 3rd, so this comes as a complete shock to everyone. 66 riders were tested this morning from the U.S., Australian, Dutch and British teams.
