Tim Lefebvre of Niagara Falls, riding for the Italpasta team, won a 100km crit in Racine, Wisconsin on July 18th, part of Milwaukee's Superweek. Tim won the race after he and teammate Mark Hlady lapped the field. US national team member Adam Laurent was second, and Christian Vanderveld was 3rd. (thanks to M.H.)   Plans are under way for CPEI (Cycle Prince Edward island) to hold its first Mountain Bike Festival August 30 and 31 at the Brookvale Canada Games Nordic Centre August 30 & 31. Rob Robinson President CPEI   Scanlon Creek Race Weekend, Bradford, Ontario (Thanks to Mike B.)  Sunny skies and cool temperatures made for an incredibly nice weekend for mountain bike racing. The recent 30+ temps finally eased, and rain was nowhere in site. This produced the fastest conditions ever seen at Scanlon Creek.  Events started with a Clydesdale Race on Saturday. A small, but enthusiastic group of the large folks fought it out on a challenging 5km course. The winner in the Men≠s division was Hendrick Van Voorst with a time of 1:01:16, followed by Carl Weins at 1:05:13 and Ronald Near at 1:05:57. The women≠s victor was Joanne Halcovitch in a time of 59:48.  Joanne finished alone as all other women≠s competitors DNF≠ed.  Scanlon Creek is not noted for major hills, but the downhill used what was available to produce an incredibly technical course through thick forest. The only two riders to break the one minute mark were the Pro/Elite victor, Joe Bauckham (GT) and runner-up Justin Wells. Riders did a total of four runs, with the best two runs combined for the time.  Unfortunately, no women racers were in attendance.  Sunday presented some of the best racing conditions that Ontario has seen all season. The big challenge was to see who could beat Warren Sallenbach≠s fastest lap time from last year≠s race. Warren and the Canadian Olympic team were at Scanlon Creek last year and he just smoked the course. The challenge was put to our local pros and Rob Mann managed to beat Warren≠s fastest by 5 seconds. Unfortunately this took a toll on Mann, and he dropped out 2 laps later. This opened the door for Robert Holmgren to take the win. In the Junior Experts, a mere 50 seconds separated the top three riders. Brad Porter picked up the win with Alastair Smith in second. No Pro/Elite Women participated.  Pro/Elite Men 1. With over 200 participants on Sunday alone we are happy to note that Scanlon Creek Conservation Area generated some badly needed revenues. Two years ago the park nearly closed. Through a number of successful mountain bike events, enough money has been raised to keep the trails open and available for mountain biking. It≠s a great place to ride, and less than one hour from Toronto.
