West Coast Racing Announces Landmark New Event in B.C. for 2008

West Coast Racing is proud to announce a landmark new event on the B.C. mountain bike scene, set to run on July 13, 2008 at Burnaby Mountain in the heart of Metro Vancouver. This event will run as the Cardiac Classic Bike Fest in honour of the famously steep climb that makes up part of Burnaby Mountain's trail network along with other twisty classics, plus brand new trails such as the reborn Gear Jammer and Hang Your Hat singletracks. This celebration of mountain biking will feature no less than 3(!) separate course layouts catering to virtually every age and ability level. Little rippers will be able choose from 2 different courses to make tracks on. Aspiring youths and senior riders will tackle the pinnacle long course layout which will be an epic challenge even for experienced riders, alternating leg-crushing climbs with significant sections of singletrack descending. The Cardiac Classic has been awarded a position within Cycling BC's rejuvenated 2008 BC Cup calendar.

"Everyone has a reason to come out to this event", according to WCR's Michael Tunnah. "Burnaby Mountain regulars will finally get the chance to show how well they can rail the trails they've been riding for so many years, while riders new to the mountain should get a real eye-opener seeing the course we can set smack in the middle of a large urban area. Whether they're on a super light hardtail or a long-travel rig, everyone will find spots where they can make time with their respective skills. Those just out for a casual day will be able to look back and say they were there at the inaugural Cardiac Classic."

The urban jewel of Burnaby Mountain has been waiting in the wings to host a race event for many years now. Recent work of the Burnaby Mountain Bike Association as incumbent trail stewards, in combination with the injection of resources from Burnaby Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services toward developing trails and facilities has put a fresh new face on Burnaby Mountain. As the event organizer, West Coast Racing is benefiting from the support of these key stakeholders and others to deliver an event that will bring riders, families, and spectators together within a festival atmosphere. "It's all about the experience", adds WCR's Tunnah. "We're not going to leave any stones unturned in making sure this event delivers on the promise of a great day for everyone involved, both on the course and with a great BBQ party afterwards."

West Coast Racing is a community cycling club operating as a not-for-profit society run entirely by volunteers from within its membership. Various outdoor and indoor cycling programs are run by West Coast Racing year-round for mountain bikers, road riders, and cyclocrossers including group rides, training programs, bike fits, skills clinics and fitness assessments. West Coast Racing is also the organizer of the Vanier Park Cyclocross Classic, drawing a huge portion of the local cyclocross community every October to this long-running BC Cup stalwart, including the increasingly popular family/youth events.
