Mike's Bike Shop and Kona Cup October 8th, Dieppe NB

It was almost too nice to race your cross bike Monday in Dieppe, but a good crowd still showed up on Thanksgiving day for the first stage of Velo NB's Kona Cup. This first event of the season was combined with the 16th week of the Mike's Bike Shop Cup (1st week of cyclo-cross). Although, it was one race, this is the reason you'll find two sets of results (a regular one, and one with the MBS handicapping system).
With impressive rides, the McKeown couple showed their summer fitness was still intact for the cross season. Jane took the open women category over Michelle Chase and Sacha LeBlanc while Brian flew over the Expert Men beating Jeff Currie and Mike LeBlanc. Patrice Boudreau took the Sport Men category (followed by Luc Arseneau and Jean Léger) and Stuart Wight edged Jean-Richard Cormier and Marc-André Deslauriers to take to Junior crown. In the U17 category, Maxime Larochelle and Julien Roussel exchanged the lead position until the end, with Larochelle slightly coming ahead at the finish.
The next event will take place in St. John on October 21st.
Radical Edge Jane McKeown's ride was such a good one she also took the win in the Mike's Bike Shop Cup with the handicap system. Marc-André Deslauriers and Michelle Chase completed the podium. On the general classification, Alain Goguen still retains his leader's jersey, a small 55 points ahead of Don Ricker. Mike LeBlanc, Stuart Wight and Jean-Richard Cormier are now completing the top 5 positions with only 3 weeks to go. The Mike's Bike Shop series will resume next Tuesday evening at 6 pm.
