CAAWS, the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity, has provided the following news items:

Nominations open for 2006 Most Influential Women List

Nominations are open for CAAWS 2006 Most Influential Women in Sport and Physical Activity. The List will reflect activity in 2006, and women previously named to the list may be nominated again. Nominate your choice if she is a powerful woman who is influencing sport and physical activity in this country, perhaps an athlete or an executive, a volunteer, a coach, or someone in the print or broadcast media. Nominations close November 30, 2006.

Women and Leadership Training Conference - Victoria, BC.

ProMOTION Plus hosted the "Train the Trainers" conference for two new workshops in the Women and Leadership workshop series developed by CAAWS. These new workshops are Effective Networking and Creating Work Life Balance which the facilitators will be delivering around the province in the following year. The three days were a great opportunity to share stories and concerns and to network with an amazing group of women. Through the two new workshops offered, the facilitators gained tools to benefit their communities and access to an experienced network of facilitators.

New Exhibit Celebrates BC Women in Sport

October 19th a new exhibit will open at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, In Her Footsteps ... Celebrating BC Women in Sport. This new exhibit will feature an interactive video display with interviews and archival footage of the honourees. Three new honourees will be announced on the 19th and will join the existing 31 women who will be honoured in the permanent display.

In Her Footsteps is the result of a partnership between the Provincial Ministry of Community Services, ProMOTION Plus, 2010 Legacies Now, the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and the BC Centre of Excellence for Women's Health.

Editor's Note: Alison Sydor will be one of the athletes honoured.
